Wildfire 2005

In 2005, over 100 people from the length and breadth of the UK joined Northwoods for two days of seminars, demonstration fires and lively debate on the practicalities of fighting wild land and forest fires, the plans and policies needed at local and national levels, and the steps that we in the UK should be taking if we are to be adequately prepared for the increasing number of wildfires that we're facing.  Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Fire Services for Scotland, Jeff Ord CBE, in his opening address to the conference, described the range of speakers as a "who's who of the national and international wildfire fighting community".

Delegates came to Otterburn in Northumberland to hear an internationally renowned group of 15 speakers - all experts in their own particular field -covering different aspects of wildfire prevention or management.  Joining a panel of UK experts were speakers from the US Forest Service, Lew Southard, presenting a paper on the highly successful US Smokey Bear campaign and Marc Castellnou of the Catalonian Autonomous Regional Government.
