This consultation is about the future role of the Forestry Commission's land holding. Ranging in size from over 30 small local woodlands distributed across the region to larger forests such as Hamsterley, Chopwell, Slaley, Thrunton and right up to Kielder Forest, the largest forest in Britain. In the North East the Forestry Commission manages an area of land equivalent to 5% of the region. The Forestry Commission is the largest owner and manager in both in the region and nationally.
