North Pennine Dales Woodfuel Project

Northwoods are launching a new project focussed on providing support to woodfuel businesses based in the North Pennine Dales area. Funded by the North Pennine Dales Leader, the project aims to work with businesses across Teesdale, Weardale, west Derwentside and south Tynedale, supporting the development of a sustainable 'quality assured' woodfuel supply chain.
We will be delivering a suite of one day training courses during March/April 2012. These are designed to give technical advice on all aspects of the supply chain from how best to manage your woodlands to selling a high quality product. Call the office or email pam.baker@ruraldevelopment.org.uk to book a place.
- Managing Woodlands for Woodfuel Production - March 22, Barningham Estate (nr Barnard Castle)
- Firewood Production and Supply - March 29, Allendale Forge Studios
- Quality Standards - April 5, Barningham Estate
As part of the project we will also be supporting businesses to work towards quality assurance with the aim to achieve accreditation through the nationally recognised HETAS Quality Assured Fuels scheme. As a supplier, accreditation can help increase marketability and sales, whilst customers can be assured they are buying the correct product for their heating system. One to one support will be available to guide businesses through the accreditation process and registration fees can be subsidised.
Alongside this we are able to offer any business in the area technical advice, guidance on applying for grant funding, wider training, help sourcing timber or any other support needed. Firewood suppliers can also register and promote their business for free on the Northwoods Firewood Suppliers Map, click here.
Whether you are an established business, or looking to get into woodfuel, you could be involved in the North Pennine Dales project. To register your interest or find out more contact John Farqhuar on 01670 513292.
