NEWHeat was a business support programme funded by One NorthEast which gave free, independent, and expert advice on whether biomass could be used to provide heat or electricity.

From its inception in November 2006 until March 2009, the NEWHeat programme resulted in at least 900kW of biomass heating capacity installed with more than 300 business assisted and extensive communications and media engagement including coverage in television, radio, print and the UK’s first woodfuel expo Ignition09 [internal link to Ignition09].  

Ongoing handholding support to businesses continued from March 2009 to September 2009 to assist businesses beyond the initial feasibility study stage.
