Shiellow Wood - Local Markets and Diversification
John and Maggie have owned their wood since 2006. The area is ~250 acres (100ha). The forest is mixed age with some involuntary restructuring due to Arwen and steady move to continuous cover/continuous cropping and planting is resulting in a very diverse forest. The wood has a good population of red squirrels which are monitored by SOS (Save our Squirrels) Berwick and an arboretum of unusual trees.
Join the Northwoods team and John and Maggie for a guided walk around the woodland. Discussion topics will include:
- Management that has been undertaken
- Future management objectives
- New planting
- Recovery from Storm Arwen
- Accessing local markets
- Adding value to timber
As part of the funding requirements for this event, Northwoods will be taking photographs for future project promotion and case studies. If you are not happy for your image to be used please indicate this on the event booking form and inform Northwoods staff on the day.
The event will be outside and thus requires suitable outdoor clothing and shoes appropriate to the weather and season.
